Bern, Canton of Bern, Switzerland

As our first week in Germany came to an end, so did our stay in the country. We are going to be back in a few weeks as we complete our loop. There are a lot of stops we have planned in our journey around Europe. In order to see them all, or as many as we can, we won’t spend as much time at each stop.

Our next destination was Switzerland, specifically Anzère. The trip took a little over 9 hours. With multiple bus and train connections it was a pretty complicated endeavor. 🚆 🚌

We ended up missing our train connection in our first stop in Switzerland. This was due to our connecting train being on a different platform. It was difficult to realize this, even though a train station platform worker indicated to us it had changed. Even though we are getting a little more familiar with German, a lot of French is spoken in Switzerland, making it even more difficult to get things figured out.

The entire trip was pretty smooth for this being the first time either of us had traveled via this type of transportation. The only hiccup being a difficult to figure out train platform switch that we solved by catching a train 30 minutes later.

While we waited for our connecting train in Bern, the capitol of Switzerland, we get a little show. As we tried to figure out how to find another train, after missing ours, we came across a loud chanting sound.

We moved further down the platform to see what was going on. As a train left the station it revealed a group of people chanting. It seemed like the group was either a bunch of sports fans or local college students. The group was roughly 200 large. I recorded the group, and as they noticed me doing so they turned and chanted towards the camera.

We’ll put up some videos of our travels soon including this one. Stay tuned! 😎

In order to find our next train we descended down the platform in search of information. We figured out where to go based on a combination of looking around and our phones. As we were heading to our platform we saw a group of heavily armed police. They were ready to deal with the crowd if things went sideways. They were armed with machine guns and crowd control shields. It was pretty intense.

However, we were reassured that we’d have good protection if something came against us.

We made it safe and sound. The journey was a lot of fun. We saw some of the gorgeous European country side and the Swiss Alps!

Thanks for following along! 👋
