Some Things We‘ve Learned By: Jamie

Leaving the windows open without screens allows flies in but the breeze is always worth it

If your window is open it is an invite for people to talk to you. But that’s a great thing because:

  1. You get to meet new people
  2. Sometimes they give you a watermelon

The trains and busses are great but bus passes are expensive we already would have spent a lot on train tickets so our EuRail passes are totally worth it.

In every place I’ve been, the city people are generally less friendly than suburb or country people. It’s the same here. The town we are staying in is not different. Everyone is nice and friendly that we’ve encountered. In the city some get annoyed at our slow or inability to understand what they are saying.

There’s a lot of horses around and we see people riding and it’s very hard for me not to ask if I can ride. 😩

Our Airbnb hostesses found out we don’t have a car and offered to drive us to the market which was fun and cute and we got to see some cool parts of the city.

When going to see a castle that is less visited and kind of out in the middle of nowhere — make sure to book a tour bus. If you don’t, you’ll end up like us and so close but not being able to see it. We could have hiked to it but we felt that if we did we might miss the train to take us back. Since it was a very small town they did not stop there as frequently. We tried calling a cab, but they never showed. It was still fun to see the country side we wouldn’t have otherwise and even though it was a long confused day we enjoyed seeing the castles we saw on every corner of the river. Now to just go inside one.

It’s been a fun learning experience so far and still a little nerve wracking since we don’t understand that much German. Thankfully we know enough we can for the most part follow signs and read menus. But conversations still go a little slow.

Tchüss!
