Spontaneous Ideas
August 2, 2019
St-Léonard, Canton of Valais, Switzerland
One thing about our trip that’s been fun has been the lack of planning. When we arrived in Naples, Italy yesterday we saw an enormous cruise ship. The same thought popped into both our heads. We should take a cruise ship up to the UK!
It’s funny how we both came up with the same idea and the same destination. As we explored around we looked at what options there were for cruises. We quickly realized that it wasn’t a good idea now. The options were either leaving too late, or way too expensive.
For our final day in Switzerland, we decided to go on this cool hike. The destination was a nice bridge on the side of the mountain. Well, the morning of the hike as we were getting ready for the day Jamie found a brochure. It talked about this large underground lake trip very close to where we were staying.
After a quick conversation we were on a bus headed in that direction. We arrived in Saint-Léonard via train and headed towards the location. It was a nice walk through a small town with the impressive mountains all around.
The temperature was pretty warm, high 80s. This made the decent down into the cave very refreshing. The board was quite large, holding 25 people. We lucked out being classified as English speakers. The guide told us to seat ourselves in the back by him so we could speak to us directly since the boat was mostly comprised of French and German speakers.
Normally we didn’t prefer to stand out as tourists.
The trip was a peaceful hour long journey through the cave lake. We saw some wreckage from other boats, a lot of rainbow trout, and some fascinating rock formations. The guide also completed the whole experience with his comedic remarks.
While I’m normally a planner, this trip has helped me un-wind and learn to go with the flow.
Au revoir! 👋
